MBC CUP of MISSIONS
With superb
weather conditions – thank the Lord - It all went well and we had close to 100
players! With their friends and families it was a good turnout. Ajax Fives
Futbol provided the facility and thanks to Marc Viljoen who guided me through
the process of hosting our first tournament. There was a jumping castle
sponsored by Remax Properties Table View. Katie Louwrens did face painting for
all the kids and Arthur Eiseb marched the kids around the fields with drums for
Jesus!
There was a
great food tent with free drinks and Apostle Ike Ibeh sponsored an energy
drink. Pastor Louw Haasbroek did a great job braaiing the Boerewors! Apostle Ike’s
Nigerian team he entered got into the finals for the CUP. 36 Matches were
played and Teacher Neil Lombard excelled at the admin side of things carefully
logging each match and finding anomalies in the Tournament spreadsheets! The
trophy and plate with medals worked as prizes aided by the donation of UMBRO of
10 mini soccer balls obtained with the help of Sharon Everett. A lady also donated 40 caps that went out to
the winners. All players received a Boerewors rolls thanks to OK Foods
Melkbosstrand, plus an energy drink. Apostle Leigh and Eric Collins refereed
for 4 hours!
Pastor Billy
announced each game and handled the event well. I roamed and greeted people,
thanked sponsors and got a few games in. Notable for me was how people got
their work colleagues to come and play. Pastor Derrick David’s idea of hosting
a soccer tournament proved to work. Ethan got most of his Sunningdale team to
play for him and they did well as the youngest team, Ethan scored 6 goals! I
connected with Voltaire Engelbrecht’s team and played goalie for him and later
striker with him. Many of the Harvester Cape Town members did their best but
the African teams were quite serious! Pastor Joseph Mutukulu’s Team from Harvester Parow won the plate and Pastor
Blaise Kapep from Grace a la Grace Church (MBC satellite) won the cup. They had
a league team in their church and cleaned out the opponents) The cup meant so
much to them we let them keep it till next year
as I know their Pastor Thierry and his wife Veve (Former MBC Student.)
What we all realized was the value of working as a team, no one was too tired
afterwards and we also got to know our African network friends in Cape Town.
Everyone wants to do it again and Pastor Billy says we raised enough to put
another MBC student through Full time Training for a year! Praise God! Glory to
Jesus!
Can’t wait for next year’s MBC CUP of MISSIONS when we aim
to regain the CUP!
